MODULE : Females and the Media
1.Introduction: Please listen to the recording below. You may want to read along.

You are now the first image based generation. My generation was a print based generation which means that the major form of communication was the written word. Today the major form of communication is the image. What does that mean to move from print to the image? How many of you have had classes on how to analyze literature? Now think about this. How many of you had classes on how to analyze People Magazine, Sports Illustrated, Cosmopolitan or MTV? I'm sure none of you have. You need to understand that the major form of activity today is consuming the image. We are bombarded by images in every direction we look. What effect does that have on you? How does this effect the way you think about yourself? How does this effect the way you think about your body? How does this effect the way females think about femininity and the way males think about masculinity? (Taken from Gail Dines, Professor-Wheelock College)
